Professor Tidwell is currently at work on a biography of poet Sterling A. Brown, tentatively entitled Oh, Didn't He Ramble: A Life of Sterling A. Brown. He has served as a resident scholar for the Kansas Humanities Council and as Langston Hughes Visiting Professor (1994).
