A.D. Boynton, II

A.D. Boynton, II [he/they] is a Black queer cultural worker from Columbus, GA. A doctoral candidate in the Department of English at University of Kansas, Boynton’s scholarly work attends to the areas of Afrofuturism, gender and queer theory, and politics of representation in popular culture. He is the Managing Editor for the Journal of Science Fiction, author-curator of the digital project 4:44 Syllabus, and has writing published in the College Language Association Journal, South Atlantic Journal, and on several online public platforms. They are currently writing their dissertation, Abiding Apparitions: Ghosts in the Black South, a multidisciplinary study of hauntings and ghosts in Black Southern culture and speculative fiction and in the process of co-editing the tentatively titled Afrosouthernfuturism with Joanna Davis-Elligatt and Kristen Reynolds. Boynton is also a poet and creative practitioner; last year they published a chapbook entitled Witness, has directed numerous choirs and plays as an artist-teacher, and is a part of the community arts guild B.L.A.C.K. Lawrence. At KU, Boynton has taught composition, American literature, science fiction, and African American literature courses and workshops on poetry, gender and racial equity, and pedagogy.
